Your Boss – A Supervisor Or Dictator?

A SUPERVISOR, is a person, in charge of other people, who makes sure, that he knows what is on the minds of the people he has authority over. He knows, for a fact, that without the support of the people under him, nothing of any importance will ever be accomplished.

Even though he is in charge, he wants the willing cooperation of those he will be supervising. He knows that even the most junior person in his organization is an important part of the over all operation of what they all are trying to accomplish. He knows that if he does not take into consideration the ideas and feelings of those he has authority over, these subordinates will not be so willing to go along with his leadership. He knows that even though he in charge of operations, that his job is no more important than anybody else’s job.

Everybody’s job is important, no matter how lowly some jobs seem to be. If you think I am kidding you, just try to get along without janitors and garbage collectors for a while, and you will see what I am talking about.

A DICTATOR, is a person, in charge of other people, who makes sure, that the people he has authority over, know what is on HIS mind. A dictator is a person, on nothing more that an EGO TRIP. He doesn’t give a damn what his subordinates think about anything except carrying out his orders regardless of their feelings, ideas, etc.

Dictators are self absorbed and are motivated primarily by self interest rather than the interest of anyone else. The only input that he wants from others would be along the lines of his own ideas, and loves to be surrounded by yes-men and yes-women.

Sooner or later, dictators are always overthrown, because the people under them, cannot forever suppressed the desire to live their own lives, to be free from a power that does not give them the freedom to be an intelligent and open contributor to the operation, to which they are a part.

The difference between the two powers above is the reason why, down through history, dictators and centrally controlled governments, eventually fail because, sooner or later, people will rise up and demand their right to be HEARD.

As a Faithist, we of this religion, know that this is the reason why all false gods, sooner or later, ended up in HELL in the spirit world, along with their worshipers. this is because these false gods have lied to all their worshipers and followers and told them that they were their creator and that they were perfect.

Eventually, something comes up, to prove to these worshipers, that this god, that they have been worshiping and serving is NOT perfect, as he has always claimed. and, in a mad rush, they all attack him, and the whole mass of worshipers and followers, are immersed, in what is called a KNOT of screaming, wailing madness of hate and fury against this false god.

Because of the years they have spent devoted to a LIAR of a false god, and because this false god has told them he is the most Highest God, these worshipers have NO PLACE TO GO, but to this false god to vent their eternal vengeance against him. this is the reason that the Chief God, Jehovih’s Son and millions of High Raised Angel Host had to deliver these hells and take the victims to some heavenly plateau or they could NEVER HAVE ESCAPED THEIR TORMENTS.

You can read all about this in the Faithist Bible, Oahspe, the only Bible God himself ever wrote.

Sarah Phillips vs. Amare Stoudemire

MAN CRUSH OF THE WEEK: SARAH PHILLIPS

I debated giving Man Crush to a woman since that wouldn’t really be a Man Crush but just a crush and therefore opening up the door for Kate Upton to win every week, but in all likelihood, Sarah Phillips is not actually a woman. no one knows.

As not a gambling addict/desperately horny guy who reads stuff for people’s headshots, I had no idea who Sarah Phillips was. and it turns out, neither does anyone else, including her now former employer ESPN.

So the story, which is still currently unfolding, was documented brilliantly by John Koblin for Deadspin, but the quick summary is Sarah Phillips was supposedly 22, a college student, and a huge sports gambler, got a job as a columnist for a sports gambling website and used three completely different headshots, got hired by ESPN, scammed people out of a bunch of money, got involved in some weird sort of internet takeover of various Twitter accounts/websites, tried to launch a comedy sports website, had everything come out, get fired, and the story just continues to get crazier as time goes on.

As far as sports scandals go, this is incredible. Most of the stuff we get is pretty mundane stuff of the drugs/steroids/infidelity/drunken anti-Semitic rant variety. but this is so different. Stolen identities, blackmail, attractive college girls, guys with Bond villain names, and a bunch of people who I had no idea existed with tens of thousands of Twitter followers? It’s amazing. I can’t get enough of it. It’s like a soap opera except one that it’s cool for guys to be interested in.

How long until “Take a Gamble: The Sarah Phillips Story” is on Lifetime? Not soon enough.

DOUCHEBAG OF THE WEEK: AMARE STOUDEMIRE

Amare Stoudemire is known for having knees barely hanging on by a string. Apparently, now he also has a hand the same way.

So the Knicks got destroyed by the Heat, so Amare took out his anger on the real culprit behind the Knicks struggles, the glass casing of a fire extinguisher.

Granted, at this point, the Knicks situation would probably qualify as an emergency. but Amare has now essentially handed the Eastern Conference to the Heat. Derrick Rose is done, and the Bulls looked completely lifeless without him. Dwight Howard is out for the playoffs. The Knicks should have at least put up a fight but now without Amare they really have no chance.

But back to how Amare is the stupidest person alive again. Out of all the things to punch, he picked the one that would shatter, because you know, that’s the point of the glass on a fire extinguisher. He must have been feeling super emo (especially with his glasses) and though it would have been really dramatic to send the glass shattering all over the floor, just like the way his heart was now all shattered. Instead he cut his hand so bad he was reportedly squirting blood and his hand was barely hanging on.

Guys, we’re going to have to probably get used to LeBron James winning an NBA championship. everything is falling (kinda literally) in place for him. This is one of the worst turn of events ever in sports. and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it, especially if players start fighting appliances.

So while the fire extinguisher clearly won round one, wait until Jeremy Lin is healthy, then watch out.

Your 2012 new York Knicks everybody!

From Now On, If You Lose Your Job You Can’t Blame the Recession

Even before all of Wall Street collapsed in September of 2008, bringing the national and global economy down with it, there was unemployment. Unemployment has always been a feature of this world. but since the whole “collapse of the economy” thing, it’s been clear that if you lost your job, it was probably due to the nefarious work of economic villains far outside of your control. Not any more, though!

The level of new unemployment claims in America has fallen to a four-year low. Which is to say, while the overall unemployment rate is still much higher than it was pre-recession (see above), the rate at which people are applying for new unemployment each week has fallen back down to pre-recession levels.

What that means by our analysis—which is, as always, based on the principle of Social Darwinism that has made America the greatest and most feared nation upon this earth, as ordained by Jesus the Christ—is that if you are unemployed and lost your job between the start of the recession and now, you can blame those faceless economic forces beyond your control; but if you lose your job from now on, you’re just the standard type of loser that loses a job due to loserness. Same as it ever was. Don’t go crying for sympathy any more. Socialism is over.

Good luck out there.

Autism consultant to open new therapy center

Eight years ago, in an effort to help Abilene do something to recognize Autism Awareness Month, Melissa Richardson organized the first Autism Speaks fundraising walk.

Walk Now for Autism Speaks is a nationwide effort to raise awareness and funds for the largest autism science and advocacy organization. Autism is a general term for a group of complex disorders of brain development that affects one in 110 children — and Richardson has spent the past 10 years as the autism consultant for Region 14 Education Service Center.

The first year for the fundraiser, 200 walkers showed up. this year they expect at least 2,500 walkers.

Her job puts her on campuses in 43 school districts throughout the region, training teachers and helping students with autism-related challenges. It seems to be much more than a job for Richardson, though. she said working with students on the autism spectrum has been the most challenging and rewarding experience in her professional life.

She has long been educating, but started working with general education students. It wasn’t until she saw her own son struggle with learning disabilities that she took an interest in helping students outside the traditional learning environment.

Through taking some classes through Scottish Rite Hospital, Richardson felt better prepared to help her son overcome his own learning disabilities. Others seeing her son overcome barriers he had faced in the classroom eventually led to her working exclusively with students with learning disabilities and, later, to her going back to school to get a Master’s degree.

Her interest grew and she developed a passion exclusively for autism. After several years in her role as autism consultant, she began to see a need for a center that would offer applied behavior analysis, a type of therapy that takes a behavioral approach to teaching.

Three years ago, she went back to school. she is now a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. she will open the West Texas Autism Center — located at West Texas Rehab — to provide applied behavior analysis to area students on the spectrum, a type of therapy she said has a very high success rate.

Students with autism oftentimes have communication problems, she said, and people find it very challenging to pinpoint and remedy those problems.

“Sometimes they’re nonverbal or limited in verbal abilities,” she said. “It’s hard for parents and teachers to communicate with them and that leads to frustration on the part of the kids and on the part of the adults. It becomes a really difficult situation for everyone.”

She has learned strategies and interventions to strengthen these communication skills, she said, and behavior problems oftentimes decrease when that happens.

“Every day I go to work it’s a blessing to me — it truly is,” she said. “When parents call or the schools calls and they’re having problems and you’re able to provide some little bit of help, it’s great. you can’t fix everything with a phone call or a meeting but you can give hope and get them on the right path. I love that, it’s a real blessing to me.”

While many families in Abilene affected by an autism diagnosis are very thankful for the work Richardson has done in bringing the walk to Abilene and serving those on the spectrum, she said she never could have made the progress she has without the dedicated assistance of Region 14 and the committee and volunteers who have helped organize the walk.

She has co-chaired the walk for several years with Jenny Frazier, she said, whose experience with autism in her own family has brought a tremendous amount of insight to the fundraising effort.

Pietrus Reenacts Getting Traded

BOSTON (CBS) – The NBA trade deadline is just over a week away, and with all the rumors swirling around the Boston Celtics, some would think the players are getting a little concerned.

But for one that has already been traded once in his career, it is something the players need to forget about and focus on the job they have to do on the court.

“As a player you don’t have to worry too much,” forward Mickael Pietrus said at Tuesday’s morning shoot-around. “I’ve been traded before, so I think it’s hard but at the same time you just try to enjoy with your teammates, because they’re part of your family.”

Read: Celtics Rumor Mill

“It’s part of the business to get traded; to get the team better and all that stuff,” said Pietrus, who was traded by the Orlando Magic to the Phoenix Suns in a six player trade in December 2010. “But as a team we’re not really worried about that, you just have to keep moving.”

Pietrus then put on a little skit, or “movie,” showing the members of the media gathered around him what it was like to be in that deal two years ago.

Pietrus Reenacts getting Traded

The Celtics are currently 19-17 and in the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. but Pietrus, who guaranteed a Celtics championship after their 107-94 win over the Nets on Friday, really likes where the team is right now.

“The big 3 are going to give us a championship; I think we have a great team, a great coaching staff. we deserve to be one of the top teams in the NBA.”

Entertaining may be one word for Pietrus, with others choosing another word (or two) to describe him. but one thing is certain, the man just likes to have fun.

“To me, basketball and life should be something fun. Because basketball is fun and you shouldn’t put any pressure on yourself just playing the game,” he said. “You should enjoy the moment, enjoy life, and enjoy being alive.”

The Hunger Games Official Trailer – Detailed Review

1. the first shot introduces us to District 12 . It’s more rustic than I had originally imagined. Personally, when I think futuristic post-apocalyptic setting, I think of more concrete, dead vehicles scattered, maybe some unusual technology. if this was a post war North America, though, in a mining colony, this is probably a lot closer to what it would look like. I think the big thing to remember is that the Capitol wants to keep everyone under control. the only technology the districts have is what the Capitol will allow. They probably cleared the area of any modern remnants other than what they control.

2. The fence. of everything in the trailer, for some reason, the fence bothered me the most. I always imagined it as being much taller, much more industrial and opposing. this looks like a simple cattle fence. I suppose that’s all they would need to get the job done, but it still didn’t fit with how I had thought it should look – what about you? and if that’s the worst thing about the trailer, I think we’re in pretty good shape

3. Gale and Katniss . I know it’s already been said, but their conversation seems to come so naturally. just like they are the old friends they should be. Liam Hemsworth was the one casting choice that I was somewhat unsure of at first. I still don’t think he quite looks like the person I imagined, but so far he seems like a great Gale, and that’s the most important thing. the chemistry is there, but doesn’t seem to be overdone, which I am thankful for. a lot of things in the trailer don’t look overdone, which really helps make everything come together in a much more real way.

4. Katniss hunting. just a quick shot (no pun intended), but Jennifer Lawrence seems comfortable with a bow, even if the previous screen-cap showed her holding it a bit oddly. I’m going to keep with my theory that she was in the midst of pointing out her target, which is why her hands were off. if there is one thing that Katniss needs to do, it’s shoot a bow with confidence.

5. The hovercraft. this is possibly when they see Lavinia running from the Capitol, later to become an Avox. though this doesn’t actually happen in the first book, timeline wise it could fit into the first movie. It might also be something along the lines of extra peacekeepers coming in for the Reaping, or something generic like that. It’s really hard to get a very good glimpse of the hovercraft here, but worth noting is how loud it is. Unless I am misremembering, aren’t the hovercraft described as being completely silent? Someone help me out here?

6. The Reaping. We already had a glimpse of all the potential tributes in their best clothes. It’s nice too see it all as one scene now. I know a lot of people wanted to see the Reaping in the trailer and I think they made a good choice by putting it in. It is especially important for those who don’t know the story ahead of time. I really like that already we are seeing the large television screens. Television, broadcast, and propaganda, are all so important to the story, I expect to see things like this everywhere. We also get a nice shot of the Capitol’s seal hanging on a red banner.

7. Effie. Maybe not as pink-haired as expected, but still amazingly creepy, out of place, and Capitol-esque. Her accent, too, is spot on to what I heard in my head. Sort of British, but not quite. she wasn’t quite as flouncy as I had imagined, but the Reaping is a very formal occasion, so there is plenty of time for that later on.

8. Peacekeepers. just like Effie, they look completely out of place, making a striking statement of who is in power here. Great uniforms that are not too futuristic that they look goofy.

9. Prim. We all knew that Willow Shields was going to make a wonderful Prim, and she doesn’t disappoint. Her emotion is so innocent and real. Not a lot more to go on at this point, but she is more a symbol and catalyst at this point than anything else.

10. Prim is Reaped. One of the most important parts of the story, this is one of those do or die moments that either makes or breaks the entire thing. if the audience doesn’t feel the helplessness and desperation that comes out of Katniss’s love for her sister, the whole point of the movie falls flat. I think it’s enough to say that no matter how many times I watch that scene, I get shivers up my spine and I know I will feel it even more when I see it in the theater eventually.

11. Peeta. Josh Hutcherson has a talent of showing you exactly what he is thinking or feeling, just with his eyes. in just that first glimpse he looks first confused, then despondent, and then resolved, in three blinks of an eye.

12. Only one comes out. Gale and Katniss again. That line sums up so much, and has so much weight. another good choice for the trailer.

13. The Train. One of the few CG elements in the movie. so far, it seems like the computer graphics overall could use a little polish, but there are still months left to do that, and for the most part it is only going to be the pickiest of us that would complain. the design of the train is interesting in that it has a great, slightly futuristic, but still recognizable bullet design, as well as looking like a luxury hotel inside if the brief glimpse of a chandelier is any indication.

14. The Capitol. Not a lot is seen of the city, but it looks massive enough. It also has a very military type look to it from the outside, despite being the lap of luxury. Appropriate given that it survived and went on to rule after multiple wars

15. Cinna and makeup. the scene where Katniss is being helped to make an impression is quite stark and jarring. I had thought of it as being a more intimate setting with just her and her style team, but it really is effective to see all the tributes being worked on at once in a hospital-like environment – it reminds me that they are all there to be killed, not to be thought of as people. Cinna has only a small moment here so I can hardly comment. I can’t say anything negative about what I see of Lenny Kravitz’s portrayal so far, but I can’t say a lot positive either. Hopefully we get to see him really shine in the next trailer.

Now is when we start getting a LOT going on.

16. The Interview and Caesar Flickerman. Stanley Tucci with a blue ponytail. He looks every bit the flamboyant host. the dress Katniss is wearing is not quite as dramatic as I would have imagined, but this is probably a case of what sounds good on paper comes out cheesy in film so they needed to tone it down a bit. still, stunning.

17. President Snow. Appropriately chilling. Donald Sutherland has a great air about him that says he is in charge, fears nothing, but is constantly living in fear of something to be afraid of. I have a feeling he is going to end up being a memorable villain as the story progresses.

18. The Girl on Fire. the chariot scene, so fast and small, if you blink you will miss it. I’m glad they didn’t reveal too much, while still giving us a great idea of what it is going to look like. I also love the futuristic opera glasses, so to speak.

19. The Tributes. the training room looks perfect – do you agree? this is also our first look at all the tributes together. We get glimpses of Cato, Clove, Rue, Thresh, and the rest. the officials look on from their lofty seats. this is also our first glimpse of just how violent the games are going to be, with heads being severed, bodies being smashed, and spears impaling – and then we see Rue.

20. Peeta. Just wanted to point out that he looks snazzy in that interview suit and Stanley Tucci looks like he is having a lot of fun with the role.

21. Haymitch. The trailer needs more Haymitch. I know Woody Harrelson can play a great eccentric functional drunk, and all we get is a bit of (important) advice. for those who don’t know who Haymitch is, though, that part could be a little confusing. I’m not sure about his look, but so far we’ve only seen him as the cleaned up Capitol version of himself. He will surely be more surly in other scenes.

22. Peeta and Katniss. I am glad they are not going an obvious they will become love interests route with what they have shown of the two so far. It’s obvious that they have very different ways of thinking as shown with the conversation on the roof.

23. Archery. Again, Lawrence really looks like a pro with the bow, which is great. Her form seems spot on (archery experts, please chime in) and she shoots with great confidence. I just hope that the bullseye shot we see is not somehow replacing the apple from the pig’s mouth. That would be a shame if they cut that.

24. Seneca Crane. That is some beard

25. The Mockingjay. the all important pin makes it’s appearance, but from Prim instead of Madge. From what I’ve heard, Madge is not in the movie, which is disappointing, but it at least still makes some sense to have Prim give her the pin. We won’t know for sure until later though, trailers can be misleading and scripts can change.

26. Rue’s Death. But that wasn’t in the trailer you might say. I beg to differ. As Katniss gives her three fingered salute, I think it is very likely that the crowd in front of the screens is blocking Rue’s body from our view. another chill down your spine moment. another great use of the ever present media – especially in this case when it works against the Capitol’s advantage.

27. 3.2.1. The countdown is a perfect way to end this trailer. We get to see the games from the point of view of others – something we know is going on but never get to see in the books, and it really brings to life the way everyone is forced to watch and how it is all a big game for those putting it on, but not those playing it or forcing themselves to cheer for a winner. Cheering for a winner is cheering for 23 other children to be murdered.

28. The Bloodbath. The beginning of the games is the end of the trailer. Franctic, crazy, and it leaves you wanting more right away because you know what’s about to happen even if you have never read the books. a quick note: while the backpack Katniss picks up does not appear to be bright orange, I did catch some orange on the front of it. I think another case of translating something to screen without it becoming distracting. I think it works.

29. Overall. I think this trailer is, honestly, one of the better trailers I have seen recently. It sets up the story, brings life to the characters, suggests some intrigue, and even pulls at all sorts of emotions in a very short amount of time. It also did all these things without giving away the entire movie and every key scene while a few things bugged me a little, I didn’t see ANYTHING that makes me worry about where the story was being taken, or how this movie is going to end up. March can’t come soon enough

How David Bradley and Justin Smith Saved ‘The Atlantic’

Four years ago, David Bradley, the chairman and sole owner of the Atlantic Media Company, came up to New York from Washington, D.C., to have dinner at the Carlyle with Justin Smith, who was then president and publisher of the Week. Bradley was desperate. for eight years, he’d been trying to staunch the flow of red ink at what was then called the the Atlantic Monthly, only to see the losses increase (one year, to more than $10 million). He admired Smith’s work at the Week, a news digest that publisher Felix Dennis had imported from the U.K. in 2001, and wanted to hire him to, hopefully, turn around the magazine.

“nobody had ever heard of the Week before, and they were stealing market share from us,” Bradley recalled in a recent interview at his office in the Watergate Complex in Washington, overlooking the Potomac.

But Smith had other plans, and he said no. He’d already decided to take a job as worldwide publisher of BusinessWeek, which hadn’t yet been sold to Bloomberg. Bradley persisted. the next day, he emailed Smith a three-page, single-spaced letter in which he implored him to change his mind and move with his family to Washington to work for him.

Financial Press: Lomiko Metals Stakes Early Position in Graphite Boom

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) February 14, 2012

Financial Press: Lomiko Metals is moving quickly into one of the fastest growing sectors of the metals industry.

Recently, Lomiko announced:

The growing demand for electric cars, smart phones, and new devices and technologies using lithium, vanadium, cobalt, graphite and rare earth metals creates exploration and development opportunities in the future.

Then on January 5th 2012, Lomiko announced the acquisition of a graphite project in Quebec.

The reaction, to say the least, was strong. Lomiko shares more than doubled in the days following the acquisition announcement.

A quick look at Lomikos propertys history and potential, the...

“I told him he had the talent to be the whole show,” says Bradley, who felt Smith would be but a cog in the wheel at BusinessWeek. “and he cheated himself by not doing it.”

Smith responded to Bradley with a challenge: He would bring the Atlantic, which had been founded in the 19th century, into the 21st if Bradley were willing to run it like a startup. “I told him, this is the first time a private ship can have the opportunity to disrupt the Royal Navy,” Smith says.

Bradley agreed and, soon after, Smith was on board as president of Atlantic consumer media. It was a good move by both. Smith had told Bradley he’d make the Atlantic profitable by 2010. He hit that goal, even in the face of the recession, making $1.8 million, and putting it on track to make $3 million this year.

“What he did to expand the influence of the Atlantic, both in print and online, was extraordinary,” says Norman Pearlstine, chairman of Bloomberg Businessweek, who’s known Smith for years. “He’s a guy who clearly comes out of the business side, but he thinks as much like an editor as a businessperson.”

When the story of the Atlantic’s turnaround is told, the credit tends to go to the 58-year-old Bradley. But Bradley himself believes his greatest talent is finding talent, and he gives the majority of the credit to Smith, who he calls “unmatchedly gifted.” In 2010, Bradley promoted his wunderkind, making him president of Atlantic Media, giving him responsibility as well for the National Journal Group and a third, smaller unit, Government Executive, a biweekly trade magazine and website.

Beautiful eCards – Simply a Beautiful Way to Say Hello

If you’re looking for an eCard to send, why not make I a beautiful one? Isn’t it fun to send eCards, you get to pick out the one that you like the best and then send it without spending a cent. they are so much more interesting than a dumpy old email and they do a better job of getting the point across. In short, they’re fun and free.

I realize that there are eCards that you can pay for, but while I run the risk of sounding cheap, I don’t want to. There are just too many lovely free ones out there that I don’t have to spend a cent. And the people I send them to are just as thrilled to receive the beautiful free eCards as they are for their pay alternatives.

In fact I think most people are just as happy to receive an digital greeting as they are one through the mail. after all it isn’t the material the message is on or how it is sent, it is thought and message itself that matter.

Some people might argue that it isn’t the same, but don’t let them fool you, their idea of a real card isn’t what it says but rather how much it cost. For people like this it doesn’t matter how beautiful the eCard is, they it will always be digital, i.e. worthless.

Oh well, you know the old expression, you can’t please everybody. Luckily nearly everyone will be pleased when you send them an gorgeous eCard. For a while I had trouble finding really good ones, sure there are enough sites out there that have them but a lot of them aren’t very nice. after I looked around for a while I realized where the really good ones were.

There is actually a toolbar that you can install into your Internet browser that allows you to send free eCards and enjoy a lot of other fun features. The nice thing about it is you don’t need to log into a website and send from there. Since it is always in your browser you just need to click on the button and you’re ready. I think you’ll agree that it can’t get much easier than that
