An Inside Look at DC Headquarters! – CSICON, Home of Geek Culture

Dear reader, I have no way of knowing where you work, but it is probably not as awesome as the DC Headquarters. BuzzFeed just ran a feature on the DC offices, and they’re every inch a geek’s paradise.

The DC offices seem to have a little bit of everything, from the old to the new to the envy inspiring. the building itself is decorated beautifully, and creator’s offices have all the personality you’d expect. but what really has me intrigued are all the sneak peeks you can see in these photos. Do I spy some Before Watchmen pages? And who is that mysterious stranger we’re seeing. Take a good look at the gallery below.

I’m not sure if I should be wiping away my pile of drool or speculating. I tried my hardest to make out the text on that image of the mysterious stranger (who kind of looks like Rorschach cosplaying as Phantom Stranger), but I was unsuccessful. all I really know is that I want to get my hands on that Watchmen promo newspaper, and I want to work for DC Comics.

Selling Your Horse Effectively on Advertising Websites

Why is it that so many sellers fail to take full advantage of the web advertising medium when selling their Horse or Pony and consequently limit the capability of prospective buyers to make informed decisions?

There is no doubt that the web represents a great opportunity to buy and sell horses. The benefits over and above traditional magazine advertising are significant to both buyer and seller.

Most of the professional equine advertising sites allow up to 4 photographs and a video clip to be included in their advert. The following statistics from a leading equestrian advertising site may surprise you.

Bear in mind this is one of the best laid out sites and it is currently free to advertise with up to 4 photos and a video clip with every advert. from all adverts placed:

• around 8.5% had no photograph at all
• around 51% had just one photograph included
• around 8.5% had two photographs and
• 31% had four photographs
• Amazingly NO (zero) video clips have been uploaded

These websites can be likened to a High Street and individual adverts likened to shops in that street. The most successful shops have a great shop window – designed to spark interest in the potential shopper and encourage them to enter the shop.

Now consider the shop window scenario in the context of the website. every advertisement placed has a summary advert (shop window). this should have the best photograph available and an excellent, summary paragraph designed to encourage the shopper to click for more details – in other words, to enter the shop.

Now imagine entering a shop and finding only one item there – the same item you have just seen in the shop window it doesn’t really work does it? at this point there should be more photographs – ideally as many as the website permits – and the all important video

The video really is important. unlike a High Street shop, on a website you cannot touch and feel the product. A video on a website is the next best thing. it allows a prospective buyer to see your horse doing what it has been trained to do. The video clip should correlate with rest of the advertisement for example: if the horse excels at jumping, there should be a video of it jumping and not one where it is being walked around a yard on a lead reign.

Now the words: with maybe a thousand words at your disposal the key here is to put yourself in the position of the buyer. You may love your horse and will want to wax lyrical about it’s temperament for example. These are important components of your text but don’t get carried away. use the space to also imagine what a prospective buyer is looking for and convey this information truthfully and passionately.

Apart from basic acronyms avoid using them and instead present something that is well written and that will excite a prospective buyer to enquire further.

All simple, common sense stuff. and so I come back to my original question at the top of this page – Why is it that so many sellers fail to take full advantage of the web advertising medium when selling their Horse or Pony and consequently limit the capability of prospective buyers to make informed decisions?

I think the answer is all about perception and mind-set. Despite the fact that the internet it is now a huge part of most people’s lives, when it comes to selling something we own privately, many of us still think of the classifieds in some form of printed matter as the first and natural choice.

In fact the reach with this form of advertising is becoming increasingly limited and is not therefore great value for money. furthermore the opportunity to really showcase your Horse or Pony is limited to perhaps a few things like the use of colour and font types/densities.

I believe there is still a perception that placing an advertisement in a printed magazine is easier than placing it on the web. this is simply not the case – not only is the converse true but web advertising is far quicker to complete and the ad is usually out there in front of your target audience within 24 hours.

These two factors – perception and mind-set, mean many sellers take a half hearted approach to the exercise of placing their private advertisement on a website.

Instead they should prepare a small portfolio of good quality, meaningful landscaped orientated photographs and a short video of their horse, doing what it has been trained to do. Add to this some carefully written text with the buyer’s perspective in mind and these simple preparatory steps will ensure the best possible chance of selling your horse in the best medium available and with the widest audience.

Dear MAS, You Guys Scare Me, ha ha. Love, The Spanish Inquisition « YesBiscuit!

Warning:  bad language, not suitable for kiddies or those offended by swear words.

Yesterday, a caring visitor to MAS saw a mama dog full of milk with no puppies. the visitor was concerned and expressed same to someone at MAS but was blown off. Still concerned, the person contacted me and sent me photos of the mama dog. I did not blow off these concerns. There were unanswered questions which required prompt answers if lives were to be saved. Where were the pups? was mama receiving the necessary care to relieve her physical and emotional pain? since the visitor had been blown off by MAS and since I can’t get anyone at MAS to answer me, I used the only tool left to try and help the dog: I posted what was known of her story on the blog. And I asked the questions: Where are the pups? Is there anyone who can help mama?

A commenter supplied some additional info which led us to believe there was no possibility of finding the pups. that answered one question. but the mama dog is still in need, just the same. And I am not giving up on her, even if it’s true that there is no hope of finding the litter.

[Release the Kraken!]

Suddenly there is a flurry of activity. I am accused of all manner of dishonesty. [Note to the accusers: As if I give a flying fuck what killing apologists say about me.] There is a witch hunt to locate the caring person who provided me the photos and information on the dog. All in the Killing Apologist Family are included. There are accusatory e-mails sent to the person they’ve decided is the source. I wouldn’t be surprised if this person ends up being the subject of retaliatory action.

Meanwhile, there is a mama dog, full of milk, sitting in a cage at MAS with nothing but a metal platform to lie on. She is not receiving the around the clock care she needs and no pleas have been made to the public for a foster home for her. There is a litter somewhere, possibly in the hands of someone who lacks compassion. Sadly, the litter is probably better off where they are than at MAS. Because what those in positions of leadership at MAS are concerned about is being catty and e-mailing the Family about who would have the audacity to speak for a voiceless pet in need at our pound? we must find that person and banish him!

I knew these kinds of people in grade school.  I thought they were stupid and immature then.  but they were just kids so, legitimate excuse.  If you are an adult and you behave like this in the face of a crisis with a pet at your pound, you are an asshat.  There is no excuse.  you need to go back to Compassion Class.  again.

Let’s be clear:  When those in leadership positions in Memphis lie and I call them on it, silence.  They don’t care if they get caught lying because, you know – it’s not like they’re going to lose their jobs HAHAHAHAHAHA!  but when they think they can catch me up on some detail, they swarm like flies on a bin full of dead pets at MAS.  the fact that no one gave a shit about this dog until she appeared on the blog  tells me all I need to know about the so-called compassion of those involved.  the fact that people got off their asses to play Who’s the Mole? on Easter Sunday instead of actually addressing the issue of the dog in need?  Ditto.

Google Working On High Tech, Augmented Reality Glasses

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – is Google trying to kill us?

That’s the question some New Yorkers might be asking after seeing the video that outlines Google’s vision for the future.

The company has unveiled “Project Glass.” It has in mind building glasses that essentially function as a heads-up display. According to the video, the glasses would project turn-by-turn directions, notify you when you receive emails, alert you to nearby friends, take photos and video chat.

That’s a lot of information to handle when you’re just trying to walk down a crowded city street – let alone trying to cross it.

“we believe technology should work for you — to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t,” Google said. “A team with our Google[x] group started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment.”

The video suggests how the glasses might work.

Apparently tilting your head up would bring up the time, weather and any incoming messages or reminders you may have.

The video suggests you’d be able to send a text message simply by speaking.

You would also get an indicator when you are nearby certain landmarks. The video depicts a notification popping up as the wearer nears a 6 subway stop – including an alert that service has been temporarily suspended. The glasses would also provide a map function to suggest alternate routes. The glasses would also provide turn by turn directions. you can also “check in” at locations using them.

You’d be able to instantly snap a shot from the glasses and share it online. In addition, you might also be also to stream live video from your glasses of what you’re seeing.

What do you think of the concept? Sound off in our comments section below.

Latest iPhone 5 Rumor Round Up: iPhone 5 Release Date, Specs & Leaked Images [Photos]

Now that the iPad 3 is finally out, Apple fan boys from all over can start turn their attention to the upcoming iPhone. the iPhone 5 is arguable the most anticipated iPhone yet. Last year, Apple [AAPL] pulled a fast one on all of else and only released a minor update and called their latest release the iPhone 4S. this set tech bloggers a storm on the web. this summer, when Apple will release the iPhone5, we should be in for the most buzzed about Apple event in history. Here is what we know about the iPhone 5 specs, the iPhone 5 release date, and a few photos that could represent the iPhone5.

iPhone 5 Release Date

All indicators are currently pointing to a June release. this would be very consistent with Apple’s previous iPhone releases. However, given that iOS updates usually coincide with an iPhone release, we could possible be in store for an iOS 6 and an iPhone 5 release in September, like last year’s iPhone 4s release. given Apple’s recent iPad 3 release in March, I would expect to see a late summer or very early fall iPhone 5 release date.

iPhone 5 Specs

While none of these are confirmed, the rumor mill around the iPhone 5 spec are swirling. first is a much larger iPhone screen. Since the release of the first iPhone, Apple has yet to make an update to the size of the screen. this has been on Apple fanboys wish list for from day one. second is 4G LTE compatibility for the iPhone 5. Apple is currently late to the game with this as most Android phones are already using the 4G network. third, a quad core processor and upgraded chipset. these last two are unconfirmed just given the changes to the iPhone size that would take place with larger processors.

Here are some other updates on the iPhone5 from IT World on what we can expect to see:

Business Insider has a post that is essentially an excerpt from a Wall Street analyst’s “report.”

The analyst, Peter Misek, with securities firm Jefferies & co., says Apple is working with Toshiba on an advanced display technology for the iPhone. according to BI, “the new screen technology is said to be more responsive, and will allow Apple to make a thinner phone.”

Misek’s actual quote is: “We believe Apple is partnering with Toshiba Mobile Display on inCell [though its "in-cell" in Toshiba documents] technology for potential inclusion in the iPhone 5 or beyond.” “We believe” is a lot less definite than “I know.”

Leaked iPhone Photos

Interntation Business Times put a slide show together of the top 5 concept designs for the iPhone 5. Check them out.

Even though these are still rumors, millions of people are currently awaiting the iPhone 5 release and all of the updates that it will entail. We will be keeping our eye out and reporting on all of the latest iPhone5 rumors.

Demi Moore’s Age Defying Helena Rubenstein Ad Campaign

She’s known for her gorgeous figure and age defying beauty, but Demi Moore’s looks are now making headlines for a different reason.

The 49-year-old actress is posing in a new ad campaign for Helena Rubenstein cosmetics and many people are buzzing over the noticeable differences in Moore’s facial structure and complexion.

Though Demi has been going through some tough personal battles right now, with her marriage to Ashton Kutcher falling apart as well as health problems, the photos seem to erase all signs of aging from the brunette beauty while taking her back in time to a much younger version of herself.

This is not the first time that the “G.I. Jane” star has received scrutiny over her ad efforts with Rubenstein. In a 2009 promotional spot, original photos of Moore and the end result photos looked noticeably different, as well.

Boot up: Metro Chrome, Raspberry Pi re-pricing, LTE roaming, Kindle Singles sales and more

Plus HP’s cloud focus, the risks of mixing the military and social networks, Siri gets sued and more

A quick burst of 7 links for you to chew over, as picked by the Technology team

Google confirms it’s working on Chrome for Windows 8 >> Mashable

A Google spokesperson told Mashable that the new version of Chrome would be based on the desktop browser (as opposed to the Android version). “Our goal is to be able to offer our users a speedy, simple, secure Chrome experience across all platforms, which includes both the desktop and Metro versions of Windows 8,” the rep said. “To that end we’re in the process of building a Metro version of Chrome along with improving desktop Chrome in Windows 8 such as adding enhanced touch support.”

Not offering Chrome for Windows 8 would basically be leaving money on the table on Google’s part.

Geotagging poses security risks >> the United States Army

[Steve] Warren cited a real-world example from 2007. when a new fleet of helicopters arrived with an aviation unit at a base in Iraq, some Soldiers took pictures on the flightline, he said. from the photos that were uploaded to the Internet, the enemy was able to determine the exact location of the helicopters inside the compound and conduct a mortar attack, destroying four of the AH-64 Apaches.

So Sirious: iPhone user sues Apple over voice-activated assistant >> WSJ Law Blog

According to the lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in California: [I]n many of Apple’s television advertisements, individuals are shown using Siri to make appointments, find restaurants, and even learn the guitar chords to classic rock songs or how to tie a tie. In the commercials, all of these tasks are done with ease with the assistance of the iPhone 4S’s Siri feature, a represented functionality contrary to the actual operating results and performance of Siri.

the Law Blog asked Siri whether her makers exaggerated her worth. And she has an answer.

Will 4G LTE devices ever roam internationally? >> CNET News

“What’s happening in terms of the number of radio technologies that can be added to a chip is not classic Moore’s Law, but it’s similar” said Dan Warren, senior technology director for the GSM Association. “There has been a lot of change in the past 9 to 12 months. And we’re seeing chipsets go from single and dual frequency to four and five frequencies.” Today’s so-called “world” phones already need to operate in about six bands to get access to 2G and 3G networks around the world. To include LTE roaming, wireless devices will need another six or seven frequency bands, Warren estimates. This means that the next generation of truly mobile “world” devices will need at least 12 frequency bands.

looks like roaming will be HSPA roaming – or just 3G roaming.

Exclusive: Amazon has Sold over Two Million Kindle Singles >> paidContent

Amazon says that in the 14 months the program has been running, it has sold over two million Kindle Singles. Seventy percent of each sale goes to the author or publisher, and Amazon keeps 30%. Amazon wouldn’t disclose its total revenues from those two million singles, but the minimum price of a Single is $0.99 and most are $1.99 (the author or publisher sets the price). So with an average price of $1.87 multiplied by two million, a rough estimate of Amazon’s 30-percent cut is $1.12m.

the novella – or short story – is back?

HP attempts to take on Amazon’s cloud service >> NYTimes.com

Zorawar “Biri” Singh, senior vice president and general manager of H.P.’s cloud services… did not say how much the computing services would cost, but said “we are not coming at this at ’8 cents a virtual computing hour, going to 5 cents.’” Amazon recently cut its prices, and its lowest cost computing is 2 cents per hour, though with extra features it can cost more. while Amazon tends largely to have a self-service model, Hewlett-Packard’s cloud will also offer more personalized sales and service, Mr. Singh said. H.P. also plans to offer a number of tools for developers to use popular online software languages, like Ruby, Java, and PHP, as well as ways for customers to provision and manage their workloads remotely. the service will also include an online store where people can offer or rent software for use in the Hewlett-Packard public cloud.

Hard to see quite who HP is going for, though. if they don’t go with Amazon, wouldn’t those customers go with Microsoft?

Pricing updates (good news!) from Element 14/Premier Farnell and RS Components >> Raspberry Pi

Basically, now going to cost a total of £31.86 to get it in your totally non-sweaty hands. (Inc postage and VAT.)

Is the iPhone 4 Worth Buying?

There has been a lot of talk about Apple’s latest phone, which is the iPhone4. there are some people that are really loyal Apple fans and will buy anything that this company produces. Then there are other people who play it safe and will search for unbiased reviews before they buy the product. if you are a person who is in the first group, you probably have already purchased an iPhone 4. if you’re in the latter category, you should find this article helpful. we will examine a few of the advantages and disadvantages of the iPhone.

The iPhone 4 has what is defined as a retina display. This is merely a screen with high resolution with pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. This density is not too far from that of the iPad. but obviously, the iPad has a much larger screen.

What this means is that everything will be bright and clear on your iPhone, from names and phone numbers to photos and web pages to movies you watch. This is not only pleasing to the eye, it makes it easier to navigate the menus and perform the various tasks you want to perform on your iPhone 4.

You can do more than just capture pictures with your iPhone 4. You can also shoot high definition movies. as a result of the LED light that comes standard on the iPhone 4, you will still be able to capture high quality videos even while filming in the dark. You also have access to the iMovie app.

This allows you to make corrections to your videos right on your phone. not being able to hold it steady is the one limitation of creating a video on any king of phone. if you opt to buy Steadicam Smoothie, this iPhone accessory will allow you to produce very professional looking videos from your iPhone. This is because this accessory doubles as a tripod and video stabilizer. It is pretty costly. but, if you want to shoot wonderful videos with your iPhone 4, then it will be a worthy investment.

Surely, you have heard the news by now that Verizon will provide service the iPhone for the first time. Previously, ATamp;T was the only service provider, which numerous people thought was the worst feature about the iPhone. Starting in February, 2011, you’ll be able to use your iPhone 4 with the Verizon Wireless network.

If you are already a Verizon user, you will have the ability to upgrade your phone. Depending on the kind of phone that you are using, you may be able to take advantage of a trade in discount. if you are not currently with Verizon, you can switch to it and begin using the iPhone 4.

Apple products have experienced an increase in popularity in the last few years. IPhones have been the leader of the pack. the iPhone 4 is most definitely their most superior product. the majority of people who have them are very content with them. one of the main issues that users had with iPhones was ATamp;T as the service provider, but this will no longer be a problem since Verizon has come along. So basically, if you are happy about utilizing the latest and greatest apps, then you will love the iPhone 4.

Rosie O’Donnell & Oprah Winfrey Aren’t Speaking To Each Other!

By Jen HegerAssistant Managing Editor of Radar

It’s becoming the battle of the talk show queens, as Rosie O’Donnell and Oprah Winfrey aren’t talking to each other after Ms. O’s decision to cancel Ro’s talk show on her embattled cable television network, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

As we previously reported, Winfrey decided last week to pull the plug on O’Donnell’s talk show because of abysmal ratings. “It was such a f**king hellhole,” one former staffer told The Daily Beast in an in-depth look at what went wrong with the show.

PHOTOS: Rosie Sells $2.5M Home In One Day – Take A Peek Inside!

Winfrey did call Rosie to tell her that the show was being canceled and “it was a very strained conversation, obviously,” according to a source close to the situation. “Oprah wanted to handle the announcement of the cancellation in a professional and dignified manner. Rosie thanked Oprah for the opportunity and ended the conversation very abruptly. OWN’s public relations team and Rosie’s publicist handled the language in the press release. Rosie didn’t like the initial language of the press release because she felt that it placed sole responsibility of the failure of the show on her. Oprah didn’t need to get Rosie’s input or approval for the press release, but she was trying to be gracious. Up until the moment that the press release was sent out, Rosie wanted changes made, but Oprah instructed the release to go out, because it needed to go out, and she was just over the drama,” the source added.

PHOTOS: Oprah through The Years

In a statement announcing the cancellation of Rosie’s show, Winfrey said: “I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day. as I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.”

At one point during discussions over the press release announcement, OWN’s public relations team “got a phone call from Rosie’s camp, explaining what needed to be included into the press release. This is Oprah’s network, and she has the final say. Oprah told her staff to have Rosie call her directly to address her concerns. Rosie never called Oprah. She was having her people do all the dirty work for her,” the insider added.

Nude Pics Of Heather Morris Leaked Online

The latest celeb to have nude pictures hit the internet is Heather Morris, and she still has yet to comment on the shots that leaked over the past weekend.

In the photos, the “Glee” star poses seductively in a bedroom revealing all of her lady parts, adding to another batch of pics which were less provocative.

It’s not the first time Miss Morris exposed every inch of her bod on the Internet, back in 2010 nude modeling shots of her showed up online and the 25-year-old expressed how she wasn’t ashamed of it during an interview with ‘Extra’.

“No, I kind of thought it might happen, I understand completely where it came from. For me, I think they are beautiful. It’s not something I’m ashamed of. Everybody should do tasteful beautiful nudes — so when you get older, you’re gonna be like, ‘Oh that’s when my body looked so great!’ she told
