We are all aware of intense rivalry between Apple and Samsung. the two companies are neck in neck in the race for the top smartphone manufacturer as well as other products. both firms have created two of the most desired smartphones in the market. these are the Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4S. if you’re trying to device between the two, let us give you a hand. Let’s compare both phones so that you can better decide which phone is right for you.

The two phones offer the best displays technology has to offer. Apple’s flagship comes with a 3.5 inch Retina display. this may be smaller compared to the 4 inch average in the market. However, it does offer the most resolution on any screen. it sports 640 x 960 pixels of resolution.

Samsung’s flagship may not offer as much resolution. the phone’s display offers 540 x 960 pixels of resolution. However, this Super AMOLED touch screen is 4.3 inches wide. these days, more and more people are looking for displays that offer more real estate for their touch interface needs.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 comes pre-installed with the Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread). this is not the most current iteration of Android since Google has now introduced the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the Korean tech giant did confirm that Ice Cream Sandwich will be rolling out to their flagship soon.

When processing power comes to mind, both handsets come packed with superior processors under the hood. Apple’s smartphone comes with a 1 GHz dual-core A5 chip. Samsung’s handset comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. these chipsets offer performance unsurpassed by most phones min the market.

Fully Assembled iPhone 5 Shown In Latest Leaked Images

What’s being rumored as Apple’s unannounced next-generation iPhone 5 is being shown in the latest round of leaked images depicting the phone’s housing with the aluminum casing, elongated and larger display, along with a smaller dock connector. The images being leaked match what we’ve been hearing from earlier rumors.

The latest image set was reported on 9to5 Mac and originally appeared on iLab Factory.

From the front and the sides, the iPhone 5 appears similar to Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S smartphones, though the display is slightly longer on the iPhone 5 than on previous models which had a 3.5-inch display with Retina display resolution. On the bottom side of the phone, we can see a new new machined microphone and speaker grills and that the 3.5-mm headphone jack has migrated from the top left of the phone to the bottom left of the device.

Also on the bottom, we’re seeing a smaller dock connector port suggesting Apple may be migrating away from the dock connector format that has appeared since the debut of the original iPod.

Additionally, the Apple FaceTime camera is now centered just above the earpiece speaker.

On the back, rather than a glass panel, the phone now is housed in an aluminum casing and there are plastic cutouts, perhaps to improve reception and help with the assembly of the phone, for top and bottom panels.

iPhone criticism: Display quality colors lagging behind Samsung

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 4 and its stunning Retina display, he said it would set the standard for mobile displays for the following five years. Five years is a lifetime in the smartphone industry, but two years later it’s safe to say the iPhone’s screen is easily still a market leader — I would even go as far as to say no mobile display even comes close to matching the iPhone’s in terms of clarity. but as sharp as Apple’s (AAPL) screen is, it is quickly falling behind the pack in another key area.

As I sit here wrapping up a review of the Motorola ATRIX HD, with a Samsung Galaxy S III and a newly updated Galaxy Note sitting next to me on my desk, I can’t help but look at my iPhone 4S differently. it remains true that no other cell phone can match the clarity of the iPhone’s display — Samsung’s (005930KS) Super AMOLED plus displays come the closest but still don’t really approach the Retina display — but compared to these vibrant AMOLED and “ColorBoost” LCD panels, the iPhone’s display is starting to look dull.

As has been the case for some time with its flat-panel TVs, Samsung is building a huge lead in the smartphone market with regard to the color reproduction achieved by its displays. Plainly put, these screens are breathtaking.

Rival HTC (TPE:2498) is gaining ground quickly with the LCD screen on the One X and the AMOLED display on its One S smartphone, and the ATRIX HD’s ColorBoost panel is very impressive as well. Apple, with its annual smartphone launch schedule, obviously hasn’t gained any ground in this area in 2012.

Samsung TVs are so desirable because of their clarity, brightness and color reproduction. its smartphone screens lead the pack in the latter two categories, but clarity is still an issue thanks to the PenTile pixel array on most of Samsung’s displays. while the company’s Super AMOLED plus screens don’t use a PenTile matrix, they still can’t quite match the clarity of Apple’s Retina displays and they also aren’t used on many recent smartphone models. Samsung says its PenTile screens last much longer than its Plus-branded displays, which is why they’re used less frequently.

(To clarify the difference between Super AMOLED, which uses a PenTile pixel matrix, and Super AMOLED plus: the former uses an array where pixels share sub-pixels, whereas pixels on Samsung’s “Plus” displays each have their own red, green and blue (RGB) sub-pixels. Apple’s Retina display uses a full RGB configuration, like Samsung’s plus panels, and the result is greater sub-pixel density and improved clarity.)

I’ve seen televisions from the likes of Sony (SNE) and Sharp (TYO:6753) that feature amazingly crisp picture quality, but they just don’t measure up to Samsung’s TVs when it comes to producing bright, vivid, beautiful colors. Because of this, it will be some time before I consider purchasing a new TV from any company other than Samsung. and smartphones are now entering similar territory. the difference in “pop” between screens like Samsung’s and duller displays continues to grow more pronounced, and the result is a potential gap in overall user experience.

But there’s hope.

Apple certainly won’t be switching to AMOLED technology in its upcoming sixth-generation iPhone, but numerous reports state that the new 4-inch panel Apple has selected for its next handset will be a marked improvement.

Several reports indicate that Apple’s new display panels will be brighter and also thinner thanks to new in-cell touch elements, and a more recent rumor from the Wall Street Journal also suggests the next-generation iPhone will also include a “higher quality” screen. This doesn’t necessarily relate to more vivid color reproduction, but considering the amazing colors Apple’s new iPad panel pumps out, it’s very likely that we’ll see some serious improvements in this area when a new iPhone launches this fall.

In February of last year, The Daily, a new magazine designed just for the iPad with lots of digital features, was released to user and critical acclaim. The app offers a mix of headlines, videos and reports on seven topics including news, business, gossip, opinion, arts and life, apps and games, and sports. HTC One X, Nokia Lumia 900, or iPhone 4s Screens – Which Looks Best?

If you are in the market for one of the hottest AT&T phones on the market and wonder which screen looks best, YouTube user foxfire235 has three hot new phones side by side for you.

He takes a quick look at the differences between the top 3 AT&T smart phones, the HTC one X, Nokia Lumia 900, and the iPhone 4s.

The HTC one X has a 4.7 inch, 720 x 1280 pixel display and a pixel density of 312 ppi.

The Nokia Lumia 900 has a 4.3 inch, 480 x 800 pixel screen with a pixel density of  217 ppi.

The iPhone 4s has the 3.5 inch, 640 x 960 pixel retina display with a pixel density of 330 ppi.

Basing it purely on the specs of the screens, the iPhone 4s should have the best display right? Not so says IntoMobile and foxfire235.

Using the same photo on each phone, he seems to really like the Nokia Lumia 900. he says that the Lumia 900′s stands out most, even though it’s over saturated, calling it the “best viewing experience”.

I disagree. Even though the iPhone 4s has a tiny screen and almost the same pixel density as the HTC one X, I think it’s rendering of this photo looks best. it looks more natural to me and natural is what we aim for when we take photos, right?

The HTC one X looks like a color filter as been applied to it making the colors look exaggerated. the way I see it, the top spot goes to the iPhone 4s, next the Lumia 900, and then the HTC one X. If you watch the video below in HD, you can judge for yourself.

If I were to ignore the screen and pick on purely on device desire, it would go Nokia Lumia 900, HTC one X, and then the iPhone 4s.

Which looks best to you? which phone would you rather have overall?

iPhone 5: 8 ‘new’ features « Current Affairs – News That Keeps You Intrested

Like all Apple launches, speculations on next-generation iPhone are running high. Cyberspace is abuzz with rumours on the expected device’s launch date, likely features, price, versions and more.

Though iPhone 4S smashed the Apple’s sales records with its roaring success, it still left Apple fanboys disappointed who were hoping for a completely redesigned iPhone.

Speculations are hight that the coming iPhone will be a complete redesigned version. some even suggest that it is the version late Apple founder Steve Jobs really worked on.

So, here’s all that Apple’s sixth-generation phone will pack as per the rumor mills.

Display

The new iPhone is likely to have a sharper and bigger 4.6-inch “retina” display. several reports claim that the high-definition “retina” display — containing several times as many pixels within the same area — used in the new iPad will make its way in the new iPhone also.

However, Topeka Capital Markets’ analyst Brian White predicted in a note to investors, “In our view, this will be the most significant iPhone upgrade with a four-inch screen and a new, sleek look that we believe will require a Unibody case.” he wrote, “this new, sleek look will be the most important reason that consumers decide to upgrade to the iPhone 5, while we believe the addition of 4G will also attract buyers of the new device.”

Processor

Several reports claim that Apple is testing the dual-core A5X processor found in the latest new iPad. this, however, is contrary to earlier reports that the next-gen iPhone 5 could have a quad-core A6 processor.

The iPhone 5 is also likely to have 1GB of memory which will promise smooth multitasking.

iOS 6

According to web rumour mill, iPhone 5 will ship with iOS 6 update. the new update is expected to be released at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple had announced iOS 5 software at last year’s event.

Camera

There’s a strong possibility of a 12 megapixel camera making its way in the next iPhone. Considering rivals are adding pixels to their phone’s camera, Apple is expected to upgrade from a 8 megapixel in iPhone 4S to 12 megapixel.

Siri update

It is expected that the new OS will bring updates to Siri, Apple’s voice-controlled personal assistant software which made its debut last year with the launch of iPhone 4S. Going by the rumours, Apple is likley to make improvements in the way Siri analysis connotation and meaning.

According to iOS 6 News Blog, Apple’s improved voice recognition system will be activated by simply shaking the phone and website search, navigation and social media sharing will all be possible through a simple voice command.

NFC

Like in case of iPad, rumour mills are speculating on a possibility of NFC (Near Field Communication) support in the upcoming version of iPhone.

NFC is a technology that allows mobile users to use their handsets as digital wallets. the technology enables users to pay for retail goods or services such as transit rides by waving their handsets across a reader.

4G LTE

Like the new iPad, the next-gen iPhone is likley to get high-speed network 4G LTE. LTE promises higher download and upload speeds compared to 3G technologies.

The new iPad’s high-end model is capable of operating on a high-speed 4G LTE network, at speeds roughly 10 times faster than the current 3G technology.

Bigger battery

Going by the rumours, one can expect a bigger battery in next iPhone. this is likely to make up for high-definition screen as well as for the inclusion of 4G/LTE radios.

Report: Apple Testing New Chip for Next-Gen iPhone

Apple is reportedly handing out next-gen iPhone testing units internally. the prototypes have a variation of the A5X processor that powers the new iPad and Apple is supposedly using pre-iPhone 4/4S-generation casings “to throw off leaks,” according to 9to5Mac.

In a report published Monday, the Apple-watching blog said the rumored prototypes, code named N96 internally, were built specifically to test a new chip that is based on the A5X’s S5L8945X architecture. the units are not likely to be actual prototypes of a next-generation iPhone that Apple will eventually sell, according to 9to5Mac.

the A5X processor used in Apple’s latest iPad would probably be overkill for whatever the company has up its sleeve in terms of a new smartphone, the website pointed out, because the new iPad’s chip was designed to drive the tablet’s Retina display, “so that chip wouldn’t make much sense in an iPhone.”

the testing units described by unnamed sources carry 1GB of RAM, the site reported.

Apple is also working on an updated version of its iPod Touch for release sometime in 2012, according to 9to5Mac. the iPod Touch was the only iOS-based device not to receive a significant upgrade in 2011.

meanwhile, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White tipped a bigger screen and sleeker look for what he called “the iPhone 5″ in a note to investors sent on Monday.

White said he gleaned insider information about Apple’s next-gen iPhone during a recent tour in China and Taiwan, where he visited various tech suppliers. He believes the next iPhone will boast a larger, 4-inch screen (current models have a 3.5-inch screen) and high-speed 4G LTE connectivity.

the hype around the iPhone 5 is growing in Asia, he added, and people have started speculating about when the new phone will be launched. some suppliers will likely begin producing components for the next iPhone in June — but don’t get too excited for an early summer launch just yet. While believes the device won’t launch until sometime in August or September.

He added that the iPhone 5 will be the most significant upgrade yet, leading to an “extraordinary” December quarter, “dwarfing” past iPhone launches.

Faster iPhone with 1GB of RAM seeded internally, iPod touch 5,1 in the works?

April 9, 2012 at 6:00 am

With one iOS device update out of the way for 2012, Apple is working on updates to the iPhone and iPod touch. While these updates are expected, we’ve learned some details about this new iPhone and iPod touch.

First, the new iPhone. Much like they did last year, Apple has internally seeded a prototype next-generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design. the actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple is testing these new devices in older casings to throw off leaks. the purpose of the prototype iPhone that we heard about is to test a variation of the “A5X” chip in an iPhone. the A5X processor in the new iPad was specifically built to drive the new Retina display, so that chip wouldn’t make much sense in an iPhone.

Instead, the iPhone prototypes that we’re talking about have a variation of the A5X’s S5L8945X architecture. Like the A5X-powered iPad, these new iPhone prototypes are packing 1GB of RAM. this prototype is labeled N96 internally, but we’re not sure if this internal codename will carry over to the actual next-generation iPhone. Again, this iPhone that we are describing is an internal-only unit built for testing the performance of a new chip in an iPhone, not an actual phone that Apple will produce.

On to the iPod touch…

The iPod touch was an interesting product for Apple last year as it was the only iOS device to not receive internal nor cosmetic changes (save for a new white model). However, it looks like Apple is still interested in the iPod touch and wants a future for it. according to a file inside of an internal iOS 5.1 build, Apple is working on a fifth-generation iPod touch that is labeled iPod 5,1 internally. We haven’t heard any specifics regarding the new iPod touch hardware, but the jump from 4,1 (the current internal iPod touch label) to 5,1 indicates major internal changes, at the very least. Perhaps Apple is finally moving to an A5 or A5X-like chip in the iPod touch. After all, the iPod touch is one of the most popular gaming devices on the market, and Apple’s dual-core iOS device processors offer top-of-the-line graphics performance.

It’s hard to determine an iPod5,1 release date based on its firmware reference, but with Apple seemingly moving their smaller iOS device announcements to the fall, we wouldn’t call it a stretch to see the new iPod touch launch alongside the iPhone just in time for the 2012 holiday season.

The iPhone 5 – The Same 3.5 Inch Display Or 4 Inch Touch Screen

These days there are more and more mobile phone buyers who are looking for a bigger display. This is evident in the success of the Samsung Galaxy S2. the Korean tech giant has sold millions upon millions of its flagship since its arrival in early 2011. One of the reasons why buyers were attracted to this Android handset is its massive display. This offered more real estate to touch, tap, and flick. in addition, it allowed users to enjoy more from their pictures, movies, and games. Since the competition offered bigger touch screens, many wonder if the iPhone 5 would sport the same screen size. Let’s try and find out.

Foxconn is the largest member of Apple’s supply line. According to sources within Foxconn’s factories, the new iOS-powered smartphone will sport a display with a screen size of 4 inches or even more. What are the advantages of this bigger retina display? Apple fans just can’t get enough of apps they download from the App Store. These apps allow them to play games, read popular publications, read bestsellers, watch movies, and listen to their music. Imagine doing all of these on a bigger display on the iPhone 5. Apps would be more enjoyable. you will enjoy more from movies. you will enjoy more from reading articles from the web, digital magazines, digital newspapers, and eBooks. Gamers will enjoy more from games. furthermore, users would have more room for touch features.

As good as this sounds, there is also a large possibility the Cupertino firm will unveil a phone sporting the same 3.5 inch retina display. the reason behind this also has to do with apps. currently, apps for iPhones are optimized for a 3.5 inch display. if the company were to release the iPhone 5 sporting a bigger 4 inch screen with more resolution, this would be a nightmare for app developers. This would mean that developers would have to redesign their apps for the larger panel. This could take them a lot of time. This also means that app would initially not look good on the new smartphone. Proof of this can be seen on the new iPad. Applications optimized for the iPad 2 were not optimized for a retina display. Since the new iPad comes with a retina display, iPad 2-optimized apps did not look good on the new tablet.

Will the iPhone 5 sport the same 3.5 inch retina display or a bigger 4 inch touch screen? Unfortunately, there’s no way to know for certain. We’ll just have to wait until the smartphone is officially unveiled.
