The internet has dubbed the upcoming device iPhone 5, but it is actually the sixth generation model.

The new look for the next iPhone could be supermodel stylish – tall, skinny and without any voluptuous curves.

A new report from iLounge said that the sixth-generation iPhone will launch this American autumn with a taller 4-inch screen, metal back, remade dock connector and new aspect ratio, according to a new report.

“Approximate measurements are 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm – a 10mm jump in height, nearly 2mm reduction in thickness, and virtually identical width,” wrote iLounge editor Jeremy Horowitz.

Not quite the “brick house” curves some of us were hoping to have return to the device. (Curves just sit better in the palm.) Instead of the “teardrop” shape that has been written about, this report said that Apple will stick with a glass-bodied design made partially of thinner, stronger Gorilla Glass 2.

Of course, speculation about iPhone is practically sport, and this report seems to fit with a spate of other recent speculative reports that the new device would have a larger screen, comparable to much of the competition on the market today.

The iPhone getting longer with no shift in width would mean a change in aspect ratio. And iLounge reports that this would add pixels to the top and bottom of the screen, which could affect third-party software. So applications would need to be redesigned to work on a new aspect ratio.

“According to our source,” Horowitz wrote, “Apple will make one major change to the rear casing, adding a metal panel to the central back of the new iPhone. This panel will be flat, not curved, and metal, not ceramic,” echoing current iMac design. (There are artist renderings on the iLounge site that approximate what this all could look like.)

Could this “metal panel” be that Liquidmetal that everyone was writing about just a couple of weeks ago? After all, it’s shiny like glass and looks has a steel color. And the iPhone 5 – or whatever its moniker is to be – would be able to withstand drops a bit more successfully.

Lastly, the dock connector is said to be getting a makeover as well. the port at the bottom of the device could be pill-shaped and smaller, with fewer pins than the current 30 pins, according to iLounge.

And, the report said, this could become standard among all its handheld devices, including the iPod.

Apple could be getting back on its summer release schedule for theiPhone, if you want to believe a new rumor.

Citing a “reliable source at Foxconn in China,” Apple-focused blog 9to5Mac says Apple’s got a handful of sample devices for the next iPhone “floating around,” and that based on previous production scheduling, the company could be looking to release a new model this summer.

The blog also notes some changes on these samples compared to previous iPhone models including a 4-inch (or larger) display, and a form factor that looks unlike the currentiPhone 4 and 4S with a “longer/wider” appearance. 9to5Mac also says none of these supposed samples carry a tapered, teardrop shape, a form-factor that rumors leading up to theiPhone 4S unveiling had so heartily suggested.

A return to a summer release schedule would make the next iPhone the first to see a release in less than a year between models. the iPhone 4S was the first phone to get off of Apple’s annual schedule, a move that resulted in record-breaking iPhone sales that were detailed in yesterday’s quarterly earnings.

As for the 4-inch display rumor, that one has been kicking around for nearly a year, dating back to last February. it first emerged from a snapshot out of China depicting the front screen of what looked like an iPhone with a larger and wider display. just weeks before, component industry tracker DigiTimes claimed that Apple was eyeing bigger screens, in part to better compete with Android devices. then in March, purported “mold engineering” drawings cropped up, depicting such a device that looked like an iPhone 4 but with a noticeably larger screen. There was also a report in June from the Verge claiming it had seen device with a 3.7-inch display, complete with a mockup of said device.

Not to be outdone, a report by our own sister site CNET France in September said it heard the next iPhone would use a qHD screen that comes in 960×540 pixels and measures about 4.2 to 4.3 inches diagonally. That’s compared to the iPhone 4 and 4S’ 3.5-inch display that runs at a higher 960×640 pixels. Finally, there were the slew of cases that hit store shelves just ahead of the iPhone 4S unveiling designed for a slightly larger, but thinner iPhone, based on what was allegedly a prototype device that leaked from a Foxconn manufacturing facility.

So what’s to believe about this rumor then? 9to5Mac says this source is the same one who told the outlet that there would be no iPhone 5 last year, suggesting that the company was working on another “S” model instead.

Allegedly he was dissatisfied with the iphone 5’s larger screen and felt that they fragmented the iphone 5. in addition, he pointed out battery issues. the eventual use of the larger screen size is considered to be a direct contradiction by Apple of all of Steve Job’s missives regarding stretching, which was stringently blocked by Jobs’ efforts during the entire final year of his life. Some iphone 5 rumors say that the upcoming iPhone 5 launch was actually delayed, approximately 90 days prior to the iPhone 4S announcement, by Steve Jobs himself, due to his battery and screen size concerns prior to his death last October at the age of 56.

Yet another one of the iphone 5 rumors, which purportedly is inside information, discloses the alleged fact that the new iphone 5 will have an aluminum case much like the iPod Touch. other rumors say that it will have only an aluminum back along with a 10 megapixel lens like the iPad2. Sources at Apple apparently confirmed that the new iphone 5 will have a 4 inch display and will have an 8mm longer metal case.

So, now the question is what other iphone 5 rumors are circulating about what features impatient consumers can look forward to seeing in this much anticipated smartphone from Apple? Variously iphone 5 rumors allege faster graphics, LTE and NFC support, as well as an all new processor and a touch sensitive home button. There is also the possibility of scratchproof color phones, utilizing liquid metal technology. A decidedly better display is expected with possible featured Retina display and the new phone is rumored to be far quicker than anything currently on the market. quite possibly one of the more intriguing rumors currently circulating is that virtually all Apple devices may before long be equipped with an automobile airbag-like system, which will keep the devices’ very sensitive displays intact.

Rumors surround the expected release date of the new Apple device, however it is still in the engineering stage. Rumor has it that the release date will be sometime during the summer of 2012, but many rumor mongers speculate that it will not be until very late summer, especially given the serious battery problems that are being encountered. Of course, everyone agrees that the rumors are true about Apple fixing all of the current problems and the new Apple offering will be as big, if not bigger, than all previous iphone releases.
