This still was taken from Kyle McDonald’s video documenting his art project. As it includes photos taken in Apple Stores without permission, we have blurred all subjects’ faces.

A Brooklyn artist says he had his computers taken away by the U.S. Secret Service when word about his recent art project got out, according to an exclusive report by Mashable.

Kyle McDonald wanted to document the way people interacted with computers. So, without permission, he installed software on public computers in two Apple Stores in new York, that took a photo a minute of anything and anyone in front of it. The photos were automatically sent to his home computers.

Over three days, McDonald collected thousands of photographs, even coming back to the stores every morning to reinstall the software, as Apple wipes store model computers every night.

McDonald uploaded the finished piece to his website, but in keeping with the spirit of the project, arranged a guerrilla-style public showing of the piece at the 14th Street Apple Store in new York last week.

As customers worked on the store computers, the screen randomly went blank, then displayed a picture of themselves, before showing off a few photographs that McDonald had captured of other unsuspecting screen gazers.

As this video taken at the event shows, a lot of people were taken aback when their screens were temporarily hijacked. But for the most part, it seemed like no one was making any serious fuss.

That is, until the Secret Service showed up at McDonald’s house to collect his two computers, two flash drives and an iPod, said the artist. according to Mashable, the charge was computer fraud.

McDonald told Mashable that he tested the waters before he went ahead with his project. Before he started, he apparently asked one security guard and a few Apple Store customers if they’d mind having their pictures taken. When he found no objection, he went ahead with the much larger — and much sneakier — photo session.

McDonald’s motivations seemed to be pure, as an artist at least. “I thought (if) maybe we could see ourselves doing this we would think more about our computers and how we’re using them,” he told Mashable. To be fair, he was the guinea pig on his first stab at the human-screen interaction project.

While we are confident that Mashable did the due diligence and looked into the facts of this story, some puzzling questions remain. For one, if McDonald is actually under investigation by the Secret Service, it’s unusual that he was so enthusiastic about talking about and even disseminating his potentially illegal project. since the Mashable story went live, McDonald tweeted that he contacted the Electronic Frontier Foundation, who advised him to stay quiet about the matter. But, his Tumblr page is still up.

Apple has not responded to Mashable, but we don’t know their side of the story either.

For a video of McDonald’s artistic misadventure, which we did not embed here for reasons that should be obvious, head over to Mashable.

iPhone 5 Latest – The Latest News About The Apple iPhone 5

iPhone 5 rumors and leaks have been turning up left and right over the past few weeks. We’ve heard about a possible 13 megapixel camera, 4G LTE, bigger display, and even NFC capability being found in the new iPhone 5. while we don’t know for sure what features will and will not make it into the iPhone 5 that is released to the public (likely to happen this summer), we do know some of the other features we want to see–beyond those that we’ve been hearing will be found in the iPhone 5.

With iOS5, Apple introduced Twitter integration where images can be uploaded to Twitter from the built-in iOS photo app. you cannot, however, upload images to Facebook directly from the photos app on the iPhone, which is something many people are not happy about. We’re hoping that Apple will improve both the Facebook and Twitter integration on the iPhone 5 so that pictures and statuses can be easily sent from the iPhone 5 without needing to launch the apps for both programs.

MicroSD Card Support

One of the things that separates the iPhone from Android phones is the fact that Android phones support the use of microSD cards to store music and other files on the device. although many iPhone users are happy with the current iPhone size offerings (16GB, 32GB and 64GB), some need more space than this to adequately store their high resolution images and videos, not to mention their music and video library. It doesn’t seem likely that the iPhone 5 will have microSD card support, but it’s still something we’d love to see.

English Premier League 2011-12: Latest Club Gossip and News

Here's all the latest gossip and news about the Premier League, ahead of the new season due to begin on August 13:

Arsenal: Arsenal midfielder Mark Randall has joined Chesterfield on a one-year contract that will expire in June 2012. Randall, an Arsenal academy product, who has played in recent years on loan to clubs such as Burnley, MK Dons and Rotherham.

Aston Villa: Ashley Young has been signed by Manchester United, who acquired the Villa winger on a five-year contract, for a reported sum of 17 million pounds.

Blackburn: Striker Benjani is expected to stay on with the club after being given...

Better Battery Life and a Removable Battery

Even if you only make the occasional call or play the occasional game on your iPhone, you’re probably going to find that the phone needs to be charged at least once per day. In fact, many iPhone 4 and 4S have complained that the battery life on their device is too short. We’re hoping that the iPhone 5 will come with a longer lasting battery so that we only have to charge the phone every other day, rather than every day. even more so, we’re hoping that the iPhone 5′s battery is removable so that we can easily replace the battery when it stops holding a good charge.

Better Zooming and Image Taking

The iPhone 4S camera is by far the best iPhone camera yet. that having been said, one thing we think could stand to be improved is the zoom functionality for the iPhone 5. you can’t zoom very much with the iPhone 4S, and when you do, the zoomed images appear very blurry. while we’re on the topic of image quality, we’d also like to see an even better camera in the iPhone 5. This doesn’t necessarily mean a camera with more megapixels (because having more megapixels doesn’t always translate to better image quality), but rather a higher quality camera that is capable of taking great images whether the lighting is perfect or too bright/too dark.

Slimmer, New Design

Don’t get us wrong, we like the design of the 4S and don’t find it to be too terribly balky. However, when you compare the 4S to the ultra thin Droid Razr or Samsung Galaxy S2, the iPhone is a little thicker than we’d like. As we’ve been hearing that the iPhone 5 will come with a bigger display, we’re hoping that Apple finds a way to incorporate the bigger display while also making the iPhone 5 a little bit slimmer. even if that means drastically changing the design of the new iPhone.
